We design and manufacture custom torque sensors capable of measuring from 2 Nm up to 40 MNm. Over the last year, Datum Electronics have made small torque sensors to fit sensitive handling equipment and the world’s largest ever torque sensor.
A custom shaft torque sensor can improve test rig design and machine, therefore, we design torque sensors that replace existing drive shafts and couplings. A custom torque sensor saves time and cost of adapting drive lines. Sensors can be delivered in surprisingly short time frames often faster than the time spent adapting to a rig.

Here are just a few examples of fully custom torque sensors we recently designed and supplied for torque measurement application in a number of industries, including defence, marine, oil and gas, robotics, machine building and mixing industries.
This M425 digital rotary torque sensor Size 5 was supplied with a 2-meter shaft and splined end fittings to replace a customer’s test rig drive shaft. The torque measurement range was 0-40,000Nm, this system provided a complete solution and saved the cost of a complete test rig re-design.
This bespoke 250KNm rotating torque sensor for a winch test rig was configured with parallel ends and sized to fit existing compression couplings.
This custom Dual Flange Non-Contact FF425 Torque Sensor, capable of measuring torque of 0-40,000 Nm. A number of these torque transducers was manufactured to replace existing coupling spacer, used between motors and pumps with a power station. The couplings were designed to operate up to 4000 rpm.
We designed and supplied this Custom Shaft Torque Sensor to fit onto a coupling in a cement mixer drive. This custom shaft torque transducer was manufactured from the existing components and saved the customer the cost of moving the gearbox to make room for a standard torque transducer.
Datum Electronics manufactured a custom torque transducer, designed to measure torque of 0-270,000Nm, replacing an existing drive coupling spacer on a customer’s test rig.
One of our customers used this custom drive shaft torque meter design was used for heavy vehicle trials.
Based on the standard FF425 Torque Transducer, we have made many units with custom flanges and end fitting to suit our customers’ requirements.
A larger version of the FF425 Series of digital rotating torque sensor, that only has a partial stator, has been designed to replace heavy drive line components. The latest of these was capable of measuring torque up to 12,000,000 Nm.
A bespoke Military adaptation of our MIL Spec and DefStan Approved Shaft Power Meter System, designed for a naval shaft power measurement application. These systems have been adapted for very harsh marine environmental conditions and are successfully used in industry and on ships today.
